Qi 2

A new evolution of the Qi charging standard has just been announced, and it’s based on Apple’s MagSafe design. MagSafe is essentially just Qi charging coils that use magnets for alignment, and to support the weight of the phone when used in docks or car mounts.

It’s a great move, as MagSafe is both a nicer experience than Qi, and more efficient, as less energy is lost due to misaligned coils. Hopefully this also means more affordable MagSafe chargers in the not too distant future.
